NGO Cautions CSOs On Criticisms
The Niger Delta Sustainable Development Initiative, a non governmental organisation based in Port Harcourt has told civil society organisations in the country not to undermine the present administration’s commitment to development through their criticisms.
The organisation said this in a press release in Port Harcourt while reacting to a report on the activities of the Presidential Adviser on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), Dr Precious Gbeneol by the leader of the Niger Delta Energy Security Strategy, Mr Tony Uranta .
The release titled: “Call To Order on Comrade Tony Uranta” and signed by Chief Sunnie Chukumele, the Executive Director said that the report which described the Presidential Adviser as anonymous, seems to create the impression that she and her office was not working.
It said that it is the wish of the Niger Delta Sustainable Development Initiative that the criticism was uncalled for as it seems to discredit the special adviser, instead of encouraging her as a daughter of the Niger Delta.
The group also condemned the assertion by Tony Uranta which described President Goodluck Jonathan cabinet as dead woods, stressing that ministers are not selected by the president, but by state governors and other god fathers, pointing out that it was always difficult for the president to drop them without recourse to the state governor or political god fathers.
It urged the society to see the report as underdeveloping and undermining the capacity and position of the president at developing the country.
The group urged Mr Uranta to concern himself with the equitable presence of MDG projects in the Niger Delta Region and how they are executed instead of casting aspersion on the person of Dr Precious Gbened and her agency.
