Akpabio Canvasses Support For Jonathan’s Agenda
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has called on Nigerians to support and pray for President Goodluck Jonathan and his transformation agenda.
Akpabio made the call at a banquet organised to commemorate the 2013 Democracy Day celebration in Uyo last Thursday.
He said that Nigerians needed to work with the president and not to distract him to ensure that his transformation agenda was executed as planned for the benefit of all.
“Let us pray for President Goodluck Jonathan. We must pray for him to succeed. His success is our success; if he succeeds, Nigeria has succeeded.
“I want to advise that all those who are trying to distract him should know that leadership comes from God and God gives it to who He pleases.
“We will not support anything that will lead to a breakup of this country; Akwa Ibom people will support Nigeria to remain one,’’ he said.
Akpabio advised youths not to be involved in kidnapping so that their days might be long, adding that they should not collaborate with those who want to bomb Nigeria as such persons did not love the country.
He announced the completion of a gas processing plant in Esit Eket, which he said, his administration had established in partnership with a UK-based company, adding that the 69km gas pipeline from Esit Eket to Ikot Abasi had been completed.
He added that the Federal Government had awarded a contract for gas supply to the Nigerian Independent Gas Project in Calabar.
Akpabio said that his administration would complete all ongoing projects and settle its outstanding liabilities before the expiration of its tenure.
“Let me assure you that all the projects we have started, we will complete them. I have worked out the programme with the United Bank for Africa (UBA); every kobo that this administration is taking as loan will be repaid before March 2015. I do not intend to leave behind debts and I do not intend to leave behind any uncompleted project,’’ he said.
