Six Model Secondary Schools Come On Stream In Rivers, Sept
The Rivers State Government says four of the model secondary schools currently under construction will be open for academic activities by September this year, while two will commence operation by December.
The Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi said this, during the commissioning of e-smart class at the Ambassador Nne Furo Kurubo model secondary school, Eleme.
Dame Lawrence-Nemi, who represented the state Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi at the ceremony, urged staff of the school to complement the effort of the government by taking their duties seriously.
The commissioner also urged parents to give support to their children and wards in the school.
Meanwhile, Educomp Solution Limited, the Indian firm managing the school pledged to turn the institution into a centre of excellence.
The chairman of the company, Mr Shantanu Prakash, who briefed newsmen during the commissioning said that the firm was making efforts to commence academic activities in the other model schools.
He said that the Ambassador Nne Furo Kurubo Model Secondary School, Eleme had the capacity to accommodate over 1,050 students, stressing that admission into the centre was through a competitive examination.
Mr Prakash also said that gender balance was taken into account in the admission process, noting that equal opportunities were given to both sexes.
He said that the school was working hard to achieve Governor Amaechi’s vision of making education competitive in line with global trend, and urged the people of the state to key into the governor’s vision in the interest of future generations of the state.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of laptops to the students.
