Market Women Critical To Economy – Mrs Amaechi
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has said that Market Women Associations are critical to the growth of the nation’s economy.
Mrs Amaechi stated this at the weekend during a meeting with members of the Market Women Associations, Rivers State Chapter at Government House, Port Harcourt.
She stated that the nation’s pursuit of economic stability cannot be realized without the collaboration of the market women who are catalysts for economic growth.
“I want to say that market women are critical segment to grow our economy and you must guide your position jealously irrespective of any challenge”.
The Rivers First Lady stated that she initiated the meeting to appreciate the women for their support in the out-gone year, and hopes to get more partnership from Rivers women, especially the market women.
She stated that her inability to visit the women during her New Year felicitation tour was not intentional, and added that market women will benefit from all empowerment schemes for women.
“I initiated one N1million grant for women in the 23 local council area of Rivers State as well as different groups, including wives of security operatives, I want to say that you are also a part and beneficiary of this scheme, put yourselves together to enable you access it and develop yourselves further.”
She urged the women to be united and show love to each other.
Governor Amaechi’s wife also encouraged them to be prayerful and shun any act capable of disuniting them.
“I am not gathering you all here because my husband is running for third term, I gathered you here to encourage you to show love among yourselves and fight any attempt to divide you and cause disaffection among you all”.
She added that the meeting will be a regular one to enhance mutual understanding between them and the office of the governor’s wife.
