NIG To Encourage Broadband Growth
The Nigeria Internet Group, a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation promoting Internet awareness in Nigeria, is making a fresh move to promote broadband growth in the country.
The organisation, in a statement on Friday, said different opinions and explanations had been given about the broadband technology and attempts to proffer solutions at various Information and Communications Technology fora in the country.
These and more, it said, were the issues that had ignited the desire by the Nigeria Internet Group to revisit the situation.
It, therefore, expressed its readiness to offer more opportunities to examine and proffer solutions to issues bordering on critical success factors to infrastructure provision in Nigeria, improved broadband penetration, and appropriate legal and regulatory framework and political-will from government to implement the right policies.
NIG is also considering a two-day interactive conference with experts from within and outside the industry, in a bid to addressing the challenge, the statement noted, while quoting the NIG President, Mr. Bayo Banjo, as tagging the theme of the conference and exhibition as, ‘Broadband as a tool in nation building’.
The forum, which will focus on the development of broadband in Nigeria, is slated for May 30 and 31 this year.
The NIG also sees the forum as an opportunity and a platform for all Internet service providers in Nigeria to meet in one location, so that customers could see what was available across the board and make informed decisions.
“It will also present an opportunity for a meeting of minds of Web design agencies showcasing their products and services as well as Domain Registrars for displaying at the conference.
