Dep Gov’s Wife Tasks Women On Gender Equality
Wife of Edo State deputy governor, Mrs Endurance Odubu, has in Benin called on women in the country to join forces to insist on gender equality.
Odubu made the call at a meeting on review of the 1999 Constitution organised by Forum of Nigeria women in Politics (FONWIP), NGO.
She said that in as much as the society considered the role of women as indispensable in the scheme of things, they should be given every possible opportunity to operate alongside their male counterparts.
“Women should change their perception about women. The poor attitude of women toward women is not encouraging; let us join forces together to fight gender in equality,” she said.
The chairman of the occasion,Mr Olu Martins, stressed the need for women to fight for their rights in a non confrontational and peaceful manner.
Martins noted, with concern, that women had often been oppressed and suppressed, adding that the forum was an opportunity for them to join forces to insist on enforcement of their rights.
Mrs Florence Gbenigie of FONWIP described as disheartening, a situation whereby issues pertaining to women were often trivialised.
