JTF Assists Landslide Victims In Bayelsa
The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, last Thursday donated relief materials to victims of landslide in Okoloba village in Kolokuma/Okpokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
The JTF Commander, Maj.-Gen. Bata Debiro, who made the presentation, said it was meant to assuage the sufferings of the victims of the landslide.
Debiro, who was represented by Col. Augustine Odoba, the Coordinator of the Civil-Military Affairs of the Task Force, said that the JTF was sensitive to the hardship experienced by the victims.
A landslide had on March 2, swept away a portion of the community and displaced some families.
He further noted that the donation was part of the corporate social responsibility of the Task Force to its host community and assured the leadership of the community of the readiness of the JTF to partner with its host communities in the Niger Delta to encourage excellent civil-military relations.
Chief MacCarthy Macpherson, the traditional ruler of the community, who received the items on behalf of the victims, commended the JTF for the donation.
He noted that the gesture would remain indelible in the minds of members of the community for a very long time.
Macpherson expressed the willingness of the community to cooperate with the JTF in carrying out its mandate in the Niger Delta Region.
Items donated include, bags of rice, mosquito nets, assorted warm clothing and toiletries.
