Navy Intercepts 105 Drums Of AGO
The Nigerian Navy ship Pathfinder in Port Harcourt, has made a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal oil bunkering within the Niger Delta region, with the interception of 105 drums of AGO popularly called Automotive gas oil, as well as the arrest of four oil bunkerers within the month of march.
In a statement signed by the Base Information Officer, Lieutenat Abdussalem Sani, and made available to The Tide said that men of the Naval Taskforce on 8th March, 2013 at Magcobar Jetty in Port Harcourt intercepted 105 drums suspected to be illegally refined product.
The statement also said that the owners of the products on sighting the Naval furniturefurniturefurniture task force abandoned the products and absconded for safety adding that men of the force made some frantic efforts to arrest the culprits but they disappeared to unknown destination.
Lieutenant Sani further disclosed that on the 17th March, 2013 four oil that suspects were arrested in Bonny local government area of Rivers State for indulging in illegal bunkering activities.
According to the Base information officer, the four suspects arrested by the Naval ratings include, Mr Sunday Garba, Mike-Daship Tanko, Igho Ukiri and Mr Emmanuel Likita adding that the suspects and the intercepted drums of AGO would be handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigations on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Commander NNS Painfinder Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua has called on criminal elements on the illegal oil business within the creeks to seek legitimate means of livelihood rather than indulging in such illegal ventures warning that, his men and officers are combatant ready to ensure that such criminal minded elements are not fund within the creek across the area.
He called on the people of the state, especially those living within the waterways to help Navy fight the oil crimes in the state.
