FG Charges Nigerians On Technology
The Federal Government last Monday urged Nigerians to use science and technology to fast track the country’s development.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs Rabi Jimeta, made the call in Ibadan at the opening of the 12th Meeting of the National Council on Science and Technology.
Jimeta reminded the participants that science and technology remained the bedrock of development in any country.
Represented by Prof. Sunday Asuquo, the scribe underscored the significance of the meeting in evolving modern national development strategies.
On his part, Dr Augustine Okesola, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Industry, Applied Science and Technology, said science and technology should be used to empower future generations.
“Let us use science and technology to facilitate the translation of the outputs and products of science and technology into tangible, visible and useful tools that will make everyday a joy to live in for our people wherever they may be residing.
“Science and technology deployed in the service of humanity or the advancement of the human race is the real science and technology,’’ Okesola said.
He said the state was hosting the meeting to offer an insight into the potentials available at the federal level and its numerous agencies.
Okesola said the meeting would foster better relationship with a view to utilising the opportunities available for the benefit of the people.
He said Oyo had planned to develop its ICT Biotechnology Science and Technology Park to solve the socio-economic problems of the state such as unemployment.
“Being a young ministry, it is faced with some teething problems that are technical, logistic, financial as well as inadequate exposure to fast-track the pace of science and technological development of the state,’’ he said.
Okesola pledged to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology as well as other relevant agencies that would assist the state to realise its developmental goals.
Reports say that the week-long meeting would feature the exhibition of various products.
