‘Police Games, Capable Of Producing Olympic Medalists’
Vice-Chairman, Police Athletic Club, Mr Solomon Aliyu, said that the force had potential to discover new talents like Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa.
Aliyu addressed Tidesports in Port Harcourt at the ongoing 10th Nigeria Police biennial Games.
He said although the track and field events of the Games had just commenced, there were hopes that new talents would be discovered.
“So far, we have just concluded the 10,000 metres for women and zone three won the event.
“So, it is too early to assess after just concluding just one event.
“We will be able to start assessing the events, may be from day two, because it is going to be a three day affair.
“So far, it is too early to assess, but so far so good. We are featuring all the events.
“We are hoping to see the likes of Chioma Ajunwa emerge from here.
‘’But, you should also remember that it is a different atmosphere when Chioma was discovered and now.
“But, we have talents that we are hopefully waiting to see how they will perform here in this games’’.
Aliyu said the Games would be used to select athletes to represent the Nigeria Police at the World Police and Fire Games at Belfast, Ireland, from August 1 to August 10.
He said the Games would feature some of its stars and other unknown athletes to enable the coaches and organisers to select those to represent the force in Ireland.
