NURTW Cautions Drivers On New Licence
The Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Tajudeen Agbede, has advised commercial drivers against patronising touts in the procurement of the new driver’s licence and number plate.
Agbede gave the advice in an interview with our correspondent in Lagos, recently.
“Drivers should not take the issue of procurement of the new licence with levity as it is their only right to be behind the wheel.
“Going through the right channel is cheaper than patronising touts and a licence obtained through these sources would eventually lead to arrest by law enforcement agencies,’’ he said.
The chairman also appealed to the drivers to begin early the procurement of the two requirements to avoid last minute rush.
Our correspondent reports that on December 31, 2012, the Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had a public presentation of the new commercial drivers licence to motorist.
At the occasion, the Sector Commander, Mr Nseobong Akpabio, said that as from September 30, the old driver’s licence would become invalid.
Akpabio said that there was no short cut to obtaining the new driver’s licence and advised applicants to desist from patronising touts.
According to him, those who obtain the new licence from other sources other than directly from the commission should know without a doubt that what they have in their possession is a fake.
