Dame Amaechi Fetes Less-Privileged Children
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has hosted children living with disability to a Valentine Party at the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The children drawn from 15 schools and homes were treated to a special party to commemorate the 2013 Valentine’s Day celebration.
Speaking during the event, Mrs Amaechi said the valentine party was in recognition and place of person living with disability in the society and to give them a pride place.
She stated that though the welfare for persons living with disability is the responsibility of all, she added that it must be done without seasons, it was worthwhile to have a feel of valentine day declared to celebrate lovers and their loved ones.
Earlier, in his sermon, Pastor George Amanfo challenged persons living with disability to rise up and actualize their dreams irrespective of their disadvantage situation. He stated that their special situation afford them the opportunity to excel and prove their worth. “I want to say to you that God loves you and want the best for you, you must rise up to this expectation and prove your worth”.
Speaking on behalf of the children, Mr Moses Monsi, a physically challenged also gave a song presentation full of praises to Governor Amaechi and his wife for their show of love to the less privileged and persons living with disability in the state and thanked them for giving scholarship to them to further their studies abroad.
Moses who is also a beneficiary of the state government taxi scheme said they will always intercede for the first family in prayers.
Among the participating schools included Faye Bema Foundation, Unstoppable Foundation, De Marillac Centre and Perpetual Succour for women and children. Others are compassion centre, Health for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Hasfa, and the Child Special School.
Others include Special School for Handicapped, lifetime Caring International Foundation, Rivers of Hope initiative, Jackson and Margaret Home, Global Foundation for Orphan Homes and Cheshire Home.
