New JTF Commander Warns Oil Thieves
The new Commander of the Joint
Military Taskforce ,(JTF) in Niger Delta, Major-General Bata Debiro, has
warned oil thieves and other criminal actors in the area that the tea
party is over as the task force is read to deal within the frame work of the
law.
Maj. Gen. Bata Debiro, described the activities of the
pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering as traumatic and said there was need
for a collective fight against this menace to nip it in the bud, considering
that barrels of crude lost to the criminal activities.
Speaking when he paid a familiarization visit to the
State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalist, (NUJ), the JTF boss, said
that the fight against criminal elements in the society is enormous, and
therefore required collaborating efforts between the security men and the civil
organizations such as the NUJ .
According to him, there was no going back on the protection
of oil facilities the life and property of innocent citizens in the region by
the security agency.
He said“ we can do a lot to discourage pipeline vandalism
and illegal bunkering; come up with programme that can make these people desist
from this criminal activity.’’.
He said JTF effects arrest of pipeline vandals and illegal
oil bunkerers on daily basis and would want these suspects to be prosecuted to
serve as a deterrent to others.
While soliciting the assistance of journalists
in the state, the JTF Commander assured that the agency would also check mate
the incident of piracy in the creeks of the Niger Delta.
