The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday identified the contribution of the media to the fight against corruption, saying that unless Nigerians are informed of its activities, nobody would know about what it has been doing.
Speaking to newsmen, the commission’s Zonal Director in Lagos, Mr. Zubairu Mua’zu, said the commissioner it was ready to partner with media houses, which have identified with the commission in the onerous task of fighting corruption in the country.
Saying that it fully appreciated the media’s contributions to fighting corruption, Mua’zu urged the staff of the organisation to continue to keep up the job they were doing in sensitising Nigerians on the dangers of corruption and the benefit of the corrupt- free society, adding that before now, many people knew the danger of corruption, as they thought it was the way of life.
The Zonal Director, who lamented that corruption was the greatest problem confronting the country, added that it was sad that inspite of the vast natural resources endowment, the country was still backward and listed among the most impoverished nations of the world.
