Body Seeks To Start Implementation of 2013 Budget
The President, Progressive Shareholders’ Association of Nigeria has urged the Federal Government to begin the New Year with the gradual implementation of the 2013 budget.
Okezie said that the government should ensure it implemented a budget that would ensure even development across the country.
Okezie suggested that the government should inaugurate a team to implement the budget to the letter. “The legislative arm of government must be proactive in nipping the scourge of corruption. Stressing that”The chairmen of the various committees in the National Assembly should visit the various ministries, departments and agencies to scrutinise their books. “Carrying out their oversight functions on the budget will put state institutions on their toes,”.
He expressed displeasure at the way funds in the budget were being used to service public office holders.
The shareholder said that there were many areas of the economy that needed huge capital investment. Stressing that “The budget must be geared to meet the particular needs of the people at the grassroots. “It is unfortunate that many of the states are relatively poor in terms of development because large chunks of their budgets end up as recurrent expenditure,” he said.
