Cleric Wants More Roads In Niger Delta
The Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate of the Roman Catholic Church, Dr Hyacinth Egbebo, has urged the Federal Government to construct more roads in the Niger Delta.
Egbebo made the call at the funeral of late Gen. Owoye Azazi, in Yenagoa on Saturday. He said the increasing use of helicopters by politicians into the riverine communities was a disservice to the people.
“We need good roads to our communities. Accessibility by road will help open up these communities to even development,” he stressed.
The cleric specifically urged the government to construct a road to Peretorogbene, the riverine home town of the late Azazi.
Egbebo urged President Goodluck Jonathan, to use his good offices to ensure speedy completion of the East/West Road, which he said, had become a death trap to road users.
“I use this road very often. Only recently, I almost got killed when a trailer fell on the road due to potholes.” “The call had become expedient due to the deplorable state of the road since the recent flood disaster.
“Please, my president, human lives are very important. Spare our lives; fix the East/West Road that is now full of potholes. Our people are tired.”
He called on Nigerians to be dedicated to God and humanity, noting that the late Azazi was a hero because of the legacies of good work he left behind.
He urged the wife, Alero, to weep no more because death is inevitable and would come when the time comes. ‘ ‘Death is always an enigma. It opens up fresh wound when it occurs. I urge you to weep no more, for your husband had lived his life.”
