Obio/Akpor Donates 17 Patrol Vans To Police, NSCDC
The Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers on Thursday donated 17 patrol vehicles to the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to boost security in the area.
The Chairman of the council, Mr Timothy Nsirim, who presented the vehicles, urged the beneficiaries to employ modern strategies and methodologies of combating crime in the country.
Nsirim explained that the vehicles were installed with modern security gargets, adding that the council’s generosity was to complement the effort of the State Government to provide security.
“We cannot fold our hands and allow few criminals to terrorise our citizens and landscape. “In this regard, I urge the Divisional Police Officers and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure that the patrol vans are used for the purpose they were given,’’ Nsirim said.
He called on corporate citizens and companies to assist security agencies in the country as management of security was a collective enterprise.
Nsirim commended Gov. Chibuike Amechi’s proactive security strategies through the provision of modern schools, jobs, agricultural programmes, expansion of computer information technology and constant interaction with stakeholders on security. “The concern of our governor has contributed to the peace enjoyed in the local government area.’’
The Mr Belo Makwashi Assistant Commissioner of Police, who represented the Inspector General of Police, said that security was everybody’s business.
While appreciating the assistance and pledging to utilise the vehicles effectively, Makwashi urged Nigerians to help the police to eradicate crime in the country.
In his contribution, Mr Kalu Patrick State Commandant of NSCDC, who represented the Commandant-General, Dr Ade Abolurin, also assured the people of effective security.
