Stakeholders Task Cooperative Board On Service Delivery
Stakeholders in Rivers State have called on the newly inaugurated Board of the Rivers State Cooperative Federation Limited to tackle the crisis of management that rocked the former board.
One of the stakeholders who spoke at the inauguration ceremony, at the cooperative Hall, Ikwerre road, Sylvanus Obedegu called on the board to ensure that the cooperative is brought out of the woods.
Obedegu who is the Marketing Manager, Rivers Cooperative Federation, lamented the backlog of eight months salary owed staff of the Cooperative Federation by the former board, and appealed to the new board to quickly address the issue.
In his post inauguration speech, the President of the newly inaugurated Board of the Rivers State Cooperative Federation, Elder Michael Chinwo assured that the new board will work hard to ensure that the crisis that rocked the former board is properly addressed.
Elder Chinwo a former director of Marine Transport in the Rivers State Ministry of Transport, solicited the support of staff and members of the Board to bring lasting solution to identified problems and challenges that have hampered the smooth operation of the Federation.
Investigation reveals that the former Board was dissolved following allegations of financial impropriety.
The petition alleged that the former Board refused to hold Annual General Meetings as provided for, in Regulation of the laws governing the body.
The former Board was also accused of selling the Federation’s property at Aggrey Road Port Harcourt for over 27 million, while the cooperative share certificate in Skye bank worth N6m was confiscated and lands at East West Road was sold without proper rendering of account.
The newly inaugurated cooperative Board consist of, Elder Micheal Chinwo as President, Mr. Edward George, Vice President, Chief Tonye Obene Director for education, Training and publicity, while barrister Aaron Amadi is to serve as Treasurer.
Other Board members include; Mr. M.O. Naanwi representing marketing Department, Wilfred Onyige, farmers, Tonye Dikibo Transport, Housing, Mrs T.T. Dappa women, Sir Hubert Ockiya , fisheries and Isaac Ohisola representing credit department.
