Transport Firm Laments Low Patronage
Marketing Manager of Chisco Group of Companies Mr Sunday Omodeni, says the high cost of travelling has reduced the number of tourists and other passengers moving within the country.
He said that as a result insecurity and the poor condition of the highways, the cost of transportation had increased.
The manager said that the twin problem of insecurity and bad roads had become too big to handle.
“Armed robbery attacks on the highways, coupled with the bad roads, have indeed scared most people from travelling by road and a good number of passengers now prefer to travel by air,” Omodeni said.
The manager said that the transporters were not only losing passengers but were faced with a high cost of maintaining their vehicles.
The manager said that a lot of vehicles developed problems due to the bad roads, adding that this imposed high cost of maintenance on the transporters.
Omodeni appealed that government should come to the aid of both transporters and passengers to solve the problem of insecurity on the roads.
He said that some of the passengers were tourists and businessmen coming into the country from nearby countries.
He said that solving the problem of insecurity on our roads would have a positive impact on the economy.
