Delta Embarks On Wildlife Park Project
The General Manager, Delta State Tourism Board, Mrs Nkem Ajufo, says the government is constructing a wildlife park at Ogwashi-Uku, Asaba to attract more tourists into the state.
Ajufo told newsmen at the on-going 8th edition of AKWAABA, an African Travel Market Expo in Lagos, that the wildlife park would attract more tourists.
She said that elephants, tigers, lions, gorillas, hippopotamuses, among others, would be in the park.
According to her, the wildlife resort would have a five star hotel of 50 rooms and 38 luxury guest chalets, adding that the wildlife park was one of the on-going tourism projects in the state, to boost its tourism potential.
Ajuso said some of the on-going tourism projects are amusement parks, theatres, international hotels, event centres and museums.
She added that the state government would create an enabling environment for public-private-partnership to flourish; peace and security; human capital development and infrastructural development.
“This would create job opportunities and enhance economic empowerment,’’ she said.
Ajufo said that the state government had also provided incentives that would facilitate speedy access to land by genuine investors in tourism.
“The state government would assist investors in gaining access to development funds.
“The government would acquire sustainable plots of land for allocation to investors for establishment of resorts and entertainment centres.
“Government is also ready to embark on joint ventures with private investors,“ Ajufo said.
She described the traditional festivals of the state as its cultural wealth, saying “Every community has at least one special festival that attracts indigenes and visitors at specific times of the year. Most are celebrated annually, while some are biennial.’’
She said that the essence of the festivals was to provide opportunity for ancestral worship and purification of the people and the land.
