Lawmakers Want Police At Flood Victims’ Camps
The Edo State House of Assembly has in Benin called for the deployment of policemen to the various camps provided for victims of flood.
It also called on the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to send its men to the camps.
The Chairman, Committee on Women Affairs, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie, representing Uhunmwode constituency, made the call under matter of public importance.
She said the call became necessary because the camps had been experiencing security challenges, especially at night.
The member also called on all relevant stakeholders to provide electricity at the camps.
“When the committee visited the camps with relief materials, it discovered that they were in total darkness and this can pose serious security threat to the people,’’ Ativie told the House.
Ativie, who commended the federal, state and local governments for their efforts in ameliorating the sufferings of the victims, called for more support.
She also called on the various local government areas in the state to provide generating sets at the camps.
Mr Emmanuel Okoduwa, member representing Esan North-East, commended the state Ministry of Health for providing prompt health services for the victims.
Okoduwa said television sets should be provided for the victims to keep them busy and expressed the need to fumigate the victims’ houses as flood water had started receding.
