I Am Now A Refugee – Ekpeye Monarch
The Monarch of Ekpeye
Kingdom, Eze Robinson O. Robinson, has faulted the Rivers ‘C’ rating of flood affected states by the federal government.
He described the category ‘C’ rating of Rivers State as classification made in a hurry and without justifiable regards to proper assessment of the areas submerged by the floods and its effect on the people.
The Eze Ekpeye Logbo made the condemnation last Wednesday while addressing newsmen at Ahoada Civic Centre, Ahoada.
Ekpeye Monarch, Eze Robinson O. Robinson says he has become a refugee as his palace has been submerged by flood that ravaged his home town, Odiereke in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Tide reports that the whole of Aboada West, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada East and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas among others had been affected by the flood in the state, yet Rivers State is on ‘C’ rating.
Speaking to newsmen in reaction to the flood, the Eze Ekpeye Logbo said compared to Anambra, Kogi, Bayelsa and other states rated in ‘A’ and ‘B’, the issue of Rivers State is equally disastrous, saying it is a sheer injustice to Rivers people and insensitivity on the part of the Federal Government to have rated Rivers State so low, considering the volume of the flood in the state.
Meanwhile, the Royal father has inaugurated an 11-man committee, headed by Envangalist Rogers Ogiri, charged with the responsibility to source for donations in cash or kind from companies, corporate organizations and individuals, with a view to assisting the affected flood victims in Ekpeye land.
As part of palliative measures, he however, levied the Chairman of Ahoada East LGA, Hon Cassidy Ikegbidi, members of Rivers State House of Assembly and commissioners of Cabinet rank of Ekpeye extraction to donate N500,000 each, Special Advisers and Service commissioners; N250,000 each, serving councilors N200,000 each, Ahoada East and Ahoada West Traditional Council stipend fund, one million naira each, while the Eze Ekpeye Logbo made a personal donation of one million naira.
He explained that it is aimed at complimenting government’s efforts towards alleviating the sufferings of flood victims in the area.
While commending Governor Chibuike Amaechi for his efforts, he appealed that more should be done to cushion the harsh effect of the flooding and thanked those who contributed in one way or the other to ensure that the victims are well cartered for.
