Retiring Appeal Court President Rejuvenates Judiciary –Galadima
The Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division, Justice Suleiman Galadima, says posterity would remember the contributions of the outgoing President of the court, Justice Umaru Abdullahi, for his immense effort in rejuvenating the Judiciary system in Nigeria.
Justice Galadima, said last Sunday night in Port Harcourt during a dinner hosted in honour of the retiring President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullahi, by the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, at Government House, Port Harcourt, to mark his fare well visit to the state.
The Presiding Justice explained that the tenure of the outgoing president has witnessed tremendous improvement in Justice delivery in Nigeria, particularly in the creation of more Divisions that brought justice closer to the people.
He said Justice Abdullahi, has carved an enviable niche for himself in his ability to deliver erudite and thought provoking speeches and addresses, noting that he has also set standards as head of the Appeal Court.
Justice Galadima, thanked him for fulfilling his promise of personally coming to Port Harcourt to bid them farewell, emphasising that his leadership of the court accorded the Port Harcourt Division special considerations and attention.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Iche Ndu, thanked the retiring Justice Abdullahi on his visit to the Port Harcourt Division and recalled that when both of them served in the Judicial Service Commission, the erudite jurist proved himself as a respectable personality.
Justice Ndu described him as a jurist every Judge should emulate, because of his character which brought high impetus to the Appeal Court that would be remembered for a long time.
Also speaking, the leader of the Port Harcourt Bar, Mr. OCJ Okocha (SAN), lauded the retiring Justice for the choice of Port Harcourt Division as one of those to be visited in course of his farewell, pointing out that his tenure as President witnessed a glorious moment.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Ken Chikere, commended the outgoing president for the farewell visit, adding that his tenure gave a new lease of life to the court of appeal in terms of quality judgments delivered.
Responding, the retiring President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Faruk Abdullahi, thanked the state government, judicial officers serving in the division for the honour done him, noting that his achievement was made possible because of the support he received from his brother judges.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
