RSG Unveils SEEFOR Committee
Rivers State Government on Thursday inaugurated the State
Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) committee for the World Bank
and European Union sponsorship project.
Inaugurating a 22 member committee at the board room of the
Ministry of Budget and Economic planning in Port Harcourt, the commissioner for
Budget and Economic planning, Hon. Gogo Levi Charles said SEEFOR is a serious
business that will aid economic development for citizens of the state.
The commissioner said the inaugurated committee is the
policy making body of the World Bank and
European Union Sponsorship Project aimed at enhancing opportunities for youth
employment and access to socio-economic service.
He noted that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi would always
do anything that would aid the engagement of the youths in the state, stating
that “it takes a government with serious focus to set up a good office for
SEEFOR.
He called on the committee to ensure the performance and
implementation of SEEFOR project, stating the need for the committee to do her
best to take the state to the final point of the project.
Presenting SEEFOR project work far to the committee members, the project
coordinator, Mr. Kelcious Amos, said World Bank and European Union sponsored
project has Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Rivers State as the participating states.
The project coordinator said that the project which would
gulp $200 million World Bank credit and a grant of $80 million from European
Union is expected to be effective between January 2013 to December 2017.
According to the coordinator, the project will benefit the
people and government of the state, as it will improve public expenditure
management system in the state.
Responding, a committee member, the chief Executive of DiDi
center for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr. Godwin Amadi commended the
government for the project, stating that the committee is happy to be part of
what the government is doing to ensure that development gets to all the parts
of the state.
He assured that the committee will do what it takes to serve
and to make sure the objectives of the government is met.
