Schools Sports Festival Gets LOC
All is now set to ensure that Rivers State Government hosts
a successful 5th National Schools Sports Festival tagged RIVERS 2012.
According to Commissioner for Sports, Hon Fred Igwe, the
Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the schools sports festival would be
inaugurated tomorrow in order to facilitate a successful festival.
The Sports Commissioner said the LOC comprises of 16 members
including himself and Commissioner for Education, Barrister Alice Nemi as
Co-Chairmen, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Richard
Oforu and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Engr. Paulinus
Nwakwoala, are Co-Secretaries.
Other members of the LOC are, Chief Allwell Onyesoh,
Chairman Post Primary School Board, Hon Chimbiko Akarolo, Mayor of Port
Harcourt, Sir Alli Oruitemeka, Chairman SUBEB, Hon Charles Paul, Chairman
Sports Council Board, Sir Daobu Harry, Director Sports Council, Mr J J Kio,
Director Rivers State Sports Institute, Mr James Nmwhiele, Director Stadia
Authority, Mr Lucky U. Worluh Board Member 1 SUBEB, Dr Agba Harry Medicals,
Pastor Austin Jonah, National School Federation, SP Usman Ochinaka security and
Mr Golden Dibia.
Hon Igwe said that the inauguration would hold by 10am in
the conference room of the Ministry of Sports.
Meanwhile, officials of National Schools Federation who
recently visited the Garden City to inspect facilities, expressed satisfaction
over the world class sports infrastructure provided by the Rivers State
Government.
The festival, which is expected to have over 10 thousand
primary and secondary schools pupils and officials from all states of the
federation is scheduled to hold from 11th to 21st of this month.
