Customs Net N7.1bn
The Ports and Terminal Multi-Services Ltd. (PTML) Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N7.1 billion revenue in August 2012.
The figure is against the N6.6 billion generated in same period of 2011.
The Public Relations Officer, Mr Steve Okonma, told newsmen in Lagos last Wednesday that the immediate past Customs Area Controller, Mr Tunji Aremu, had broken a record in the history of PTML by generating N7.1 billion as revenue in one month.
Our correspondent reports that the command recorded N47.4 billion in the first eight months of the year.
The breakdown showed that the command recorded N4.9 billion in January; N5.6 billion in February, N5.8 billion in March, N5.1 billion in April, N6.4 billion in May, N5.6 billion in June and N6.6 billion in July.
Aremu handed over to Mr Zakari Jubril, the new controller of the command, on September 3.
Okoma said that the former controller urged both customs officers and stakeholders to support the new controller to meet up the target set by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko.
“The secret of the PTML, apart from being a model port, is that we have been working as a team.
“We engage in constant meetings with both the stakeholders and officers”, he said.
Okonma urged officers and men of the command to be diligent in order to meet up with the yearly revenue target.
