Flood Damages 5,000 Houses In Jigawa
The Chairman of Guri Local Government of Jigawa, Alhaji Abdullahi Bulama, has said that about 5,000 houses had been damaged by flood in the area.
Bulama told newsmen that the newly constructed local government staff quarters were also affected by the recent flood.
He explained that the flood also washed away farmlands, houses and animals in nine out of 10 wards in the area.
The chairman said the council had spent N12 million to procure materials for embankment in flood-prone communities across the local government.
Bulama added that those displaced in the area were taking refuge with their neighbours and relatives.
He appealed to the federal and state governments to intervene, to prevent further destruction.
Recent floods in the state had killed four, injured three and damaged houses in Kiyawa and Dutse local government areas.
