Publisher Seeks More Funding For The Tide
United Kingdom-based journalist and publisher of the
NewsAfrica Magazine, Mr. Moffat Ekoriko has blamed under investment by the
government as the factor responsible for the not two impressive performance of
The Tide Newspaper in the last couple of
years.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Tide recently in
Port Harcourt, Mr. Ekoriko said that successive governments in the state failed
to inject massive investment into The Tide Newspaper.
He said that, this ugly situation has not only affected the
fortune of the paper in the state but has made its lost its position as the
dominant paper in the Niger Delta.
“I remember when I first came to Nigerian Tide in an
industrial attachment in 1989, it was one of the greatest media houses to work with in this country.
“The Tide was a very dominant paper. It was seen as the
voice of the Niger Delta, but now it has
not been able to maintain that, and that is simply due to under investment.
“The media business is investment intensive” he said.
He said that what The Tide needs to reclaim its place is
more investment and commended the
management and staff of the corporation
for their high level of dedication to duty which he said has kept the
place on inspite of the difficult challenges.
Mr. Ekoriko, who is also the publisher of the Moment
Newspaper said that The Tide and the Moment Newspaper can collaborate in areas
of editorial and feature writings, staff training and others.
He used the occasion to commiserate with the management of
the corporation over the recent fire incident which gutted parts of the
building and urged for urgent attention
by the government to prevent the building from collapse.
