Amaechi Tasks Leaders On Boko Haram… Woos: German Investors To Nigeria

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi says the
security challenges faced in the northern parts of the country and the Boko
Haram insurgency can be halted if the leaders of the north would rise up to
their responsibilities.

Governor Amaechi said this yesterday when the Flag Officer
Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Nigerian Navy (NN), Rear Admiral
Olufemi Ogunjimi visited him in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru, Governor
Amaechi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum called on
leaders in the north to stand up to the demand of the times, urging them to respond
to the issues of security and wanton destruction of lives and property.

Somebody has to stand up for the North, somebody has to give
up himself to restore peace in the north, somebody has to take responsibility,
the state Chief executive said, noting that it takes a lot of commitment,
sacrifice and courage to address security issues, thanking the Nigerian Navy
for their efforts at restoring peace and order across the state.

Earlier, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval
Command (ENC), Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Olufemi Ogunjimi, thanked Governor
Amaechi and the state government for the support the Nigerian Navy has received
so far, noting that it has enhanced their operational capabilities, expressing
its readiness to continue to collaborate with the state government.

Rear Admiral Ogunjimi tasked the judiciary and other law
enforcement agencies on the speedy prosecution of criminals arrested, and
handed over to them by the Navy, assuring Nigerians on its commitment to secure
the nation’s waterways and resources.

Meanwhile, Governor Amaechi had called on German investors
to take advantage of the vast area of land in Nigeria and invest in
agriculture.

Amaechi, who is the
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) made the call on Wednesday
in Berlin, the German capital.

Amaechi and five other governors are on a tour of Germany to
understudy its federal system of government with a view to replicate its best
practices in their states.

Our correspondent covering the visit reports that the tour
was the result of the collaborative effort between the NGF and the German
Agency for International Cooperation (GAIC).

The governors, from Enugu, Niger, Plateau, Borno and Katsina
states, are paying special attention on Germany’s administrative system, fiscal
policy and the establishment and sustenance of small and medium scale
enterprises.

They are also expected to meet and woo prospective European
investors to their respective states.

“I will urge you to please come to Nigeria because of its
vast land and invest in agriculture and your return will be quick.

“ I am sure that if you do the computation, you will see
that it will be cheaper to invest in agriculture.

This he said would not only help boost the economy of the
country, but would reduce the number of unemployed youths in the country.

He added that there were other areas of investment in
Nigeria that could guarantee quick returns because of its large population
backed by purchasing power of the citizens.

Such areas, he said, include electricity, education and
transportation among others.

Our correspondent reports that GAIC was presently helping to
grow small businesses in some states in Nigeria.

The German government had also entered an agreement with the
Federal Government to help strengthen the country’s institutions as well as
provide managerial training in Nigeria’s energy sector to help address the
challenges in that sector.

However, the German Agency for International Cooperation
(GAIC) has said that the development of economic potentials was the biggest
challenge faced by governments across the world.

Director of the Agency, Mr Kians Bruckner,  said this in Berlin on Wednesday while
welcoming six Nigerian Governors who are in Germany to understudy its federal
system of government.

Bruckner, who said that the responsibility of developing SME
was enormous, urged the governors to use the opportunity of their visit to
Germany to interact effectively with German government officials and business
owners.

He welcomed the decision of the governors to visit Germany
and commended the effort of the various governments in Nigeria at developing
SMEs.

“I encourage you to not only listen but to talk about your
experiences and expectations so that we would have a better understanding of
your challenges.“ Bruckner said.

This, he stressed would enable the governors to get
appropriate advice and support from German officials.

Why Wike Is Playing God In Rivers -Asari Dokubo

Published

on

A former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, has claimed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is “playing god” in the current political crisis that has pitched him against the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Dokubo also chided President Bola Tinubu for, according to him, handing over “Rivers and Bayelsa” to the ex-governor.
“He is now playing god. It is dead on arrival, all those things that he is doing,” Dokubo said in a video that surfaced on X.com on Monday.
He added, “I advise my friend, President Bola Tinubu; what you are doing to all Ijaw, Ikwerre people in Rivers State (sic). You took Rivers state and gave it one man”
In April, Fubara revealed that the administration has raised the monthly Internally Generated Revenue of the state from N12 billion which he met upon assumption of office to N27 billion.
Dokubo described the development as commendable while alleging that the governor only had access to N6 billion when he assumed office.
“The governor had come out to say that the IGR for Rivers State is now N27bn up from N12bn. The governor is even being economical with the truth. When the governor came in, they were giving him a paltry sum of N6bn,” he said.
Meanwhile, in another twist to the ongoing crisis, Fubara on Monday said that he would set up a panel of inquiry to look into the affairs of governance in the state.
He disclosed this during the swearing-in and administration of the oath of office on Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as the Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice.
The governor criticized recent comments by the former Attorney-General of the State and Justice Commissioner, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, who resigned from his cabinet over a fortnight ago and urged the new Attorney-General to defend the state.
He stated, “It is not the one that while you were here… the only thing you do is to sabotage the government.
“Instead of you to close your mouth, you publicly claim that you’re a learned person to tell people that you’re the Chief Law Officer. Chief Law Officer, you were here and went to stand before a Magistrate Court.
“At that time you didn’t remember that you’re a Chief Law Officer going against the ethics of your job.”

Panel To Probe Governance In Rivers Underway -Fubara …Swears In Iboroma As New Attorney-General

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his readiness to set up a panel of inquiry to look into the affairs of governance in the state.
Fubara disclosed this during the swearing-in and administration of the oath of office on Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice.
The governor criticised recent comments by the former Attorney-General of the State and Justice Commissioner, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, who resigned from his cabinet over a fortnight ago and urged the new Attorney-General to defend the state.
Fubara stated, “It is not the one that while you were here… the only thing you do is to sabotage the government.
Addressing the new AG, the governor said, “You have a big task. As it is today in the local parlance, they say the jungle has matured. We will be setting a panel of inquiry to investigate the affair of governance.”
The governor further said there was a deliberate attempt to sabotage his administration, saying, “If we disagree, no matter how bad it is, it should be resolved.
“But it has become very clear that this disagreement there is no headway to it, and for many reasons, there is very visible evidence that there is sabotage, a deliberate attempt to sabotage this administration.
“Maybe where they are they are telling them nothing will happen, it is happening here live, we have our own legislators that are performing their duties according to the Constitution. So that record is threatened.”
