Cash Crunch Hits Bayelsa Govt House Clinic
The cash crunch that has been the experience of many Bayelsa state ministries and parastatals in recent times, has reached its peak at government house clinic as essential services have collapsed.
The clinic which is one of the legacies of Dr Goodluck Jonathan when he was governor of the state was said to be experiencing under funding.
Most of the state of the art facilities in the clinic are not functioning due to lack of maintenance while some of the patients receiving treatment there are being referred to other places.
The situation is so bad that the management of the clinic can no longer afford to fuel its plant which finally packed up two weeks ago.
The Tide On Sunday gathered that only skeletal services are being rendered, while admission for serious cases has been put on hold.
Officials of the State Hospital Management Board are keeping sealed lips over the issue as one of them referred The Tide On Sunday to the Ministry of Health for comments.
At the ministry, a senior official who chose to be anonymous, said, “my friend are you a new journalist in town? If you’re not, then, you must have noticed that this is not the best of time to comment on the happenings in this state except you want me to lose my job.”
