Amaechi Assures On Ogbogoro Road
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, has assured that his administrator would ensure that Ozuoba/Ogbogoro Road was completed according to specifications.
He gave the assurance on Monday during an unscheduled inspection of the road project, as he urged residents to be patient, and disregard insinuations that the project had been abandoned.
Amaechi said although he was yet to be fully briefed by the contractor on why the site was abandoned, he stressed that no reason was sufficient not to make the road passable before the rains.
“I just summoned the contractor now to Government House this evening. I don’t know why they are not on site”, he declared, “They are supposed to be using sharp sand not even laterite but they are fabricating the ring for the underground drain.
“But that is not enough reason why this road should not be passable, even if it is not passable look at people’s homes at least, these three families would not be enjoying this period”, he said.
On the other hand, the authorities in Okrika Local Government Area have set up a taskforce to check and stop illegal bunkering activities in the area.
Acting Chairman of the Local Council, Dr Godknows Tam-George after visiting the site of illegal bunkering at Abam-Ama in Okrika where the Joint Military Taskforce “Operation Pulo Shield” destroyed facilities used for the criminal activity yesterday said the council would not condone the act, but would henceforth prosecute defaulters.
He expressed dismay over the level of pollution on the environment caused by illegal bunkering, assuring that the council would not fold its arms over activities that are harmful to life and property.
The Acting Okrika Local Government boss said he would meet with Community Development Committees (CDC) and other communities to desist from the criminal act warning that the council would henceforth confiscate any piece of land used for such business.
Dr Tam-George also called on the leadership of the National Union of Petrol and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) Tanker Drivers Union to immediately remove tankers parking on all access roads leading to Okrika Island, since they constitute threat to residents and other residential buildings in the area.
