Host Community Condemns Shell Exploitation
Umuebulu community in Etche Local Government Area has condemned what they descriebd as divide and rule system employed by Shell to exploit its host communities.
Rising from a Town hall meeting summoned at the palace of the traditional ruler of the community Eze Sunday Njoku, the CDC Chairman Mr. Dorn Njoku describe the development as unfortunate, stating that the government of Rivers State might have been misled during the facilities tour of the Gas plants at Afam, Oyigbo and Umuebulu Etche Local Government Areas wondering why Umuebulu community was not represented in that facility tour.
In his speech, the youth leader of the community Comrade Godwin Njoku said that Umuebulu being a peaceful community should not be toyed with, noting that the community had not delegated anybody from any other local government to speak for it since the community has its representatives.
In his remark, the Ochimba of Umuebulu Etche Eze Sunday Njoku recalled that since 1952 when Shell started its oil exploration, the community had not had any confrontation with it and wondered why Shell employed tricks.
He called on Shell to change their attitude especially those that are likely to generate confrontation.
According to him, the community and Shell have reached an agreement on how to relocate the people living around the gas plant.
In his closing remarks, an American based president of Etche American foundation, Dallas chapter Mr. Emanuel Njoku commanded Governor Amaechi for his giant stides.
