RSG Urges Posting Of Corps Members To Schools
In line with the new posting policy approved by the Federal Government, the Rivers State Government has tasked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state to deploy corps members to the four cardinal sectors of education, health, agriculture and rural infrastructure.
The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi gave the charge Monday, at the closing ceremony for the Batch ‘B’ 2012 orientation course at Nonwagbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Owene Wonodi, the governor said the state had been working with the policy since its inception, noting that so far, it had proved helpful to the state.
Governor Amaechi stressed the need for principals across the schools in the state to be more receptive to the corps members in order to actualize the policy targets.
In his words, “let me at this point direct all the school principals to be on ground to receive corps members and ensure that they are given appropriate and challenging schedules. You are not to reject them no matter the pressure.”
Describing the people of the state as friendly, accommodating and hospitable, Governor Amaechi urged the corps members to feel free at their places of primary assignment, adding that they should identify and carry out tangible and meaningful community development projects in their various lost Communities in fulfillment of the NYSC Scheme.
While warning the corps members against all vices of truancy, absenteeism, disobedience, lawlessness, and misconduct, the Gov. Amaechi said mediocrity would not be tolerated.
According to him, “ good conduct will be rewarded as usual and of course, government will continue to provide every necessary assistance that would help you actualize the goals of the scheme.”
