Dangofa-a Is New Amateur Open Golf Tourney Champ
A former Caddy, Mr Johnbull Dangofa-a has won this year’s Port Harcourt Amateur Open Golf Championship.
Mr Dangofa-a, after a two-day tournament returned a gross of 147 in 36 holes to win the coveted championship title, forcing the defending champion, S. U. Amadi to the second position.
Other winners at the tournament include Deseri Fekorigha, who won the first prize in the Ladies category with 73 nett on count back and Mrs Judith Assisi-Obomanu who won the longest drive for ladies.
Sunny Osubu emerged best nett with a score of 71 and T.H. Adeyemo was the winner in the sponsors category.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the president of the club, Mr Churchill Uti commended the players for their improved performance and thanked Total E&P for donating N3.5m to the club.
The money, he said was used to construct the biometric security door system at the main entrance of the club, which he said is first of its kind in all the recreational clubs in the Niger Delta region.
Also speaking, the captain of the section Engr Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, who was represented by his vice captain, Uzor Ejennaka said he was overwhelmed by the success of the organsation at the competition.
In his speech, the chairman of the organising committee, Engr Alek Musa called for encouragement of youths into sports, especially golf, noting that talents are abound.
Responding, the champion, Johnbull Dangofa-a thanked Mr Victor Ore who he described as his mentor for inspiring him in his educational career and in golf, promising to do his best in subsequent tournament.
