NAOC Commissions Projects In Bayelsa
The Epebu community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has hieved a sigh of relief as the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and its joint venture partners commissioned some development projects there last Friday.
The projects include science block at the Community Secondary School, landing jetty/shed and a health centre.
Speaking during the ceremony at Epebu, NAOC General manager, District, Giovauni Salvini, represented by the Public Relations, Communications and Government Liaison manager, Prince Nwachuku Obi, said that the projects are true testimony of Agip’s commitment toward infrastructure development that would improve the living standard of the people in its host communities.
He pointed out that the exercise is not just limited to Epebu community, saying that NAOC has over the years criss-crossed more than eighty communities within the land and swamp areas of the company’s operational states of Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta via the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He explained that as a way to empower the indigenes of the host communities, the contract for the projects were awarded to indigenous contractors nominated by the community, and urged them not to abandon the projects in order not to stall development and the efforts of the company in the area.
The NAOC boss, urged the community to protect the amenities in the area and maintain the existing peace and cordial relationship to enhance oil operations in the area.
The representative of Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment, Ezekiel Adike, commended Agip for complementing the State Government effort toward rural infrastructure development.
He advised the people to shun violence, pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering and maintain peace to attract more projects.
The Special Adviser to Bayelsa State Governor on Oil and gas matters, Hon. Ndutimi Komonibo, highlighted the dangers associated with illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism, stressing that loss of aquatic life and environmental degradation were imminent if not checked.
