‘Presidential Museum, Vital To National Heritage’
Some stakeholders in the Arts sector have commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s proposed museum for the documentation of past and present Nigerian Presidents, saying that it was vital to the country’s heritage.
The Director-General, National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), Martin Adaji, said that it was a good idea and would put leaders in check and make them to endeavour to live above board, so that they could be adequately documented.
He told newsmen in Lagos that it would also promote cultural orientation and cultural diversity and bring about social inclusion in the country.
“It will show the evolution of the nation’s leadership history from generation to generation, as well as the styles of various leaders and how successful they were.
Adaji stressed that although the main project would be in Abuja, the prototype should be replicated in all the state capitals.
He advised local government councils nationwide to also take a cue from the initiative and take steps to replicate the idea in their areas.
The Chief Executive Officer, Naijacommunity Network Company (NNC), Victor Maranzu, an Art enthusiast, said that the project would be a national treasure, considering Nigeria’s history and challenges as a nation.
He said it was a good idea to honour the nation’s past rulers.
“I still believe our leaders need to do more than celebrating themselves by building a museum, such that their works and visions should not be in vain.
“The people concerned should ensure that our heroes’ dreams for the nation should be taken further and that their visions for a great Nigeria is not lost,” he said.
Maranzu argued that the project could also be inculcated into the nation’s school curriculum for children and the youth to begin to emulate, for a better society.
The Special Assistant to the Director, National Gallery of Arts (NGA), Mufu Onifade said that the potentialities for expanding the scope and relevance of Nigeria’s cultural heritage were very good.
