LASG Clamps Down On Unpainted Commercial Vehicles
In line with the ongoing transformation in the Transport industry and in compliance with the law and order guiding the operation of commercial vehicles in the state, the Lagos State Government has reiterated its existing directives that all intra-state commercial buses must be painted in the Lagos State approved colour of Red or Yellow with black stripes.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Opeifa who made this assertion recently in Lagos, stressed that regardless of the status of the vehicle, no inscription should be written on any intra-state commercial buses operating within the Lagos metropolis.
According to him “all commercial buses must be duly registered with a commercial plate number and hackey Permit issued from appropriate authority in Lagos.
He said that the statement became necessary to ensure that commercial vehicle operators comply with the existing law, to restore sanity on the road and ensure the protection of lives and property of Lagosians.
The Commissioner also emphasised that all mini-buses known as danfo should be painted in yellow with black stripes while the mass transit buses with two doors should be painted in approved red color. He noted that those buses that have been authorized to ply Victoria Island and its environs in an approved colour must all re-register through the various register offices within the state.
Opeifa, said that, hence- forth no commercial bus will be allowed to ply intra-state with commercial plate number obtained from other states and that those that have registered earlier should re-register with immediate effect or face the wrath of the law.
He urged commercial bus drivers to comply with the directive in their interest, adding that all enforcement agencies such as LASTMA, vehicle inspection officers (VIOs) and Task force among others have been instituted to impound any commercial bus not painted in the approved Lagos State colour of Red or Yellow with Black stripes and that the vehicles will not be released until it is painted in the proper colour and registered appropriately.
