Firm Awards Scholarships To Rivers, A’Ibom Students
The Rusal-Alscon Smelter Company, Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom, says it has offered scholarships to 51 students studying in various institutions of higher learning in the country.
According to a statement by the company Monday, the students were drawn from Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Eastern Obolo, Oruk Anam in Akwa Ibom, and Opobo/Nkoro, in Andoni Local government Areas of Rivers State.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr Anatoly Polovov, noted that the company attached importance to working with traditional communities and would continue to provide them with comprehensive support.
Polovov said, “Our scholarship programme represents the company’s investment into the sphere of education which plays an important role in the life of Ikot Abasi LGA and neighbouring communities in the region.
“We believe that by supporting local students we are making contribution to the education and training of good workers for our plant as well.”
He explained that Alscon’s assistance in the education sector also included monthly financial support for three schools.
“Besides investments in education, Rusal-Alscon assists in the spheres of healthcare, development of sports and provision of free electricity power to Ikot Abasi urban,” he added.
