ICSS Wins FIDA Inter-Schools Quiz Competition
Igwuruta Community Secondary School hs won this years Children’s Day Quiz Competition organised by the International Federation of Women Lawyers, (FIDA), Rivers State Chapter.
The Chairman of FIDA, Mrs. Eucharia Somiari Pepple, who was represented at the occsionby Mrs. Florence Itamunola stated that the purpose of the competition was to provide children with basic rights and hope for the less privileged in the society.
Held at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall, Mrs. Pepple encouraged the students to develop a good reading culture which would help them to succeed in their career.
She advised that building up a good character is the best way to success, adding that “Intelligence without good character is meaningless”.
The FIDA Chairman, said students should use the internet for learning purposes rather than engage in immoral acts through it.
The Guest Speaker at the occasion, Hon. Justice Harriba Dagogo-Jack who spoke on the theme, “Grooming the next Generation” described grooming as the totality of bringing up children for the future, adding that it is also the responsibility of a child to put into practice whatever training given to him or her.
Represented by Mrs. Florence Fiberesima, Justice Dagogo-Jack stated that grooming requires everything about an individual like dressing, talking pattern, behaviour etc.
The Attorney General of the State, represented by Mrs. Inime Aguma, assured all children in Rivers State of their protection by the Ministry of Justice.
He encouraged FIDA to try to fight against the law restricting women from taking some one on bail in police stations, suggesting that a law be passed to give women the right to bail people.
The competition had Community Secondary
School (CSS) Rumuodomaya and Atlantic People’s Herald for the junior cadre while ICSS Igwuruta and CSS Amadi Ama competed for the senior cadre.
At the end ICSS Igwuruta emerged as the winner with 79 points against 77 points, while CSS Rumuodomaya emerged the winner in the junior cadre with 85 points against 60 points.
The grand finale of the event had a large turn out of school children from different schools in the state and women organisations who came to support FIDA.
