Compensation: RSG Meets Abonnema Wharf Landlords
Rivers State Government is to commence payment of the backlog of compensation to Abonnema Wharf Waterfront landlords in preparation for the demolition of the remaining structures in the area.
A statement issued Wednesday by the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari said government reiterates its position to carry through its urban renewal policy of the waterfronts and appealed to residents in parts of the state not to misconstrue the good intentions of the government.
It commended the Abonnema Wharf landlords for their commitment to the urban renewal programme, stressing government’s determination to follow due process on matters of land acquisition for development purpose.
Abonnema Wharf Waterfront has remained a source of security challenge to the state government like other waterfronts in the state while law abiding citizens in that area sincerely desire a situation where the place could be demolished for better structures in a planned environment, the release added.
It enjoined other waterfront landlords and residents in parts of the state to follow the good example shown by the landlords of Abonnema Wharf Waterfront for the good of the State.
