Oshiomhole’s Aide: Police Offer N10m Reward For Clues
The police have announced a N10 million reward to any person who volunteers information leading to the arrest of killers of Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, the Principal Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State.
Oyerinde was killed in the early hours of Friday by unknown gunmen.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Mr Peter Gana who announced this in Benin yesterday, said that the Edo government offered the reward to facilitate the arrest of Oyerinde’s killers.
Gana, who said that he was in Benin to complement the efforts of the state Police command, pledged that the police would do everything possible to unravel the perpetrators of the crime.
He, therefore, urged anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the killers to contact the police.
“We have opened three telephone lines for the public to assist in the investigations,’’ said Gana when he visited Oshiomhole at Government House, Benin.
He gave the telephone numbers as Etisalat – 080178624253, Glo – 08158823049, MTN – 0814177026, adding that the lines would be active from 3 p.m. today.
He assured the people of the state that the police would do its best to guarantee the safety of lives.
However, the PDP in Edo has denied any complicity in the assassination of Mr Oyerinde Olaitan, the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
The state PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, said at a news conference on Saturday in Benin, that the party had no hand in the killing of the governor’s aide.
He rejected the allegation and described it as “malicious’’, saying that it was designed to taint the image of PDP.
Though details of the killing is still stretchy, reports said that Olaitan was assassinated in his house in Benin in the early hours of Friday.Orbih noted that Oshiomhole gave a 14-day ultimatum to the Edo State Police Command to find Olaitan killers, but regretted that he did even not wait for the 14 days to elapse before leveling allegations against PDP members.
He urged the Inspector General of Police to call the governor to order.
Orbih also commented on the recent accident involving the governor’s convoy, in which three journalists lost their lives, urging the police to investigate allegations that the accident was orchestrated to kill the governor.
