Extortion, Molestation Worries NLC Transport Scheme
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Corporate Transport Scheme in Rivers State has given Franchise assurance of adequate protection of vehicles hinder its fleet.
To that effect, it was gathered that the NLC transport group has taken steps to checkmate the activities of touts, alleged illegal revenue agents, molestation of drivers and the collection of illegal road taxes.
Speaking to The Tide at Labour House in Port Harcourt, the General Manager of the NLC Corporate transport outfit, Mr. Messiah Musan, said that the corporate transport is poised to ensure that every vehicle registered under its fleet is adequately protected from the activities of road touts.
He said that necessary and relevant security agents have been contacted, and that corporate bodies who pay the salaries of members of the NLC ought not to suffer such embarrassment, intimidation and forceful extortion from alleged revenue agents in the transport sector.
Mr. Musan, however, pointed out that, the NLC maintains a position that vehicles registered under its fleet will not be molested by these revenue agents who in the name of some government agent extort drivers.
The corporate transport scheme General Manager posited that it will be wrong for agencies to impose certain taxes on vehicles, which they know, they are not empowered by law to do.
He, therefore, urged corporate bodies to take advantage of the services the NLC transport scheme is offering to identify with it, for a smooth transport operation in Port Harcourt and environ, adding that, the organization is poised to go to any level on the vehicle protection.
