NAFDAC To Re-Certify Packaged Water Firms
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has directed all packaged water companies in Nigeria to apply for re-certification of their facilities.
The Director General of the agency, Dr Paul Orhu who said this during a training workshop in Port Harcourt for producers of packaged water in Rivers State, said that, the directive has become necessary as a result of some abnormal practices observed by the agency in the course of its operations.
Dr Orhu represented by Mrs Jane Omojokun, the Deputy Director in charge of Regulatory Affairs listed some of the abnormalies as production of packaged water in unhygienic environment, improper use of chlorine in water treatment and the use of domestic fillers and domestic ultra violet lights amongst others.
According to him, “the purpose of the workshop is for all of us to rob minds to reduce consumers complaint and equip you with necessary tools to achieve good manufacturing practices”.
He also said that the workshop is expected to educate them to overcome myriad if problems in the production of packaged water as well as enable the agency to capture the biometric data if all clients and stakeholders regulated by NAFDAC with a view to building strong data base to ease regulation which will serve as a medium of providing technical advice on good manufacturing practices.
Also speaking , the NAFDAC Director of Establishment, Mrs Hauwa Keri represented by the Unit Head of the Agency in Rivers State, Pharmacist Bolakule Aynde warned packaged water producers against the practice of employing unqualified production managers in their operations.
