Wrestling Federation’s Secretariat Moves To Abuja
The secretariat of the Wrestling Federation of Nigeria (NWF) has moved to Abuja, an official of the federation confirmed this week.
The federation’s Secretary-General, Olumide Bamiduro, told newsmen that the secretariat “is now in the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium’’.
“We are now in the Indoor Hall at the Package B, and this is to ensure we operate better than before as we get ready for the 2012 Olympic Games in London,’’ he said.
The wrestling federation’s secretariat had been in Lagos since the body’s formation and operations under the National Associations’ office of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Even when the NSC moved to Abuja in the early 90s, the federation’s secretariat remained in Lagos alongside a number of other sports federations, which had maintained their Lagos offices.
Bamiduro said that he was excited by the secretariat’s relocation to Abuja as the development would enhance administrative activities in the federation.
“We are also closer to our supervising body, the NSC, and this will help us in preparing our wrestlers who have qualified for the 2012 London Olympics,’’ he said.
“Our wrestlers for the Olympics will be camping in Abuja, and will thereafter be moving abroad for the pre-Games training tour. The secretariat will therefore be crucial to all arrangements in this respect,’’ he said.
Two male wrestlers, Sinivie Boltic and Dick Adibo, and their female counterparts, Obiajunwa Amarachi and Blessing Oborodudu, are already preparing for the London Games.
The wrestling federation is expected to open camp for them and eight other wrestlers as part of the preparations for the Olympics.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
