Pirates Court Siasia For Coaching Job
Former Nigeria national team coach Samson Siasia tells Tidesports source that he has been approached about taking on the vacant Orlando Pirates job.
The Buccaneers are on the lookout for a coach for next season following Julio Leal’s exit earlier in the week, and already a number of top names have been linked with the position.
Siasia, a striker for the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup and Africa Nations Cup winner that same year, is currently in line to coach a team in the new, prestigious India Premier League, but says an opportunity to take the reins at Pirates would be one too good to turn down.
“All I can say now is that someone contacted me to ask if I was interested in the job,” he said.
“I told them I am open to discussion. What coach in Africa would not be interested in Orlando Pirates? But, for now, no discussions have taken place.”
As a coach, Siasia led the Nigeria Under-20s to the African title in 2005, and also to a silver medal at the Youth World Cup.
