FCTA To Design Economic Master Plan For Area Councils’ Dev
The FCT Administration says it is committed to designing an economic master plan for area councils and satellite towns to facilitate their development.
The FCT Minister of State, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, said this last Tuesday in Abuja at a ceremony organised for the signing of the contract for the expansion of the Karshi and Kubwa infrastructure.
SCC construction company is the contractor handling the project.
She said that the administration would explore ways of generating revenue internally and collaborating with the private sector to develop the area councils.
According to her, the administration will focus more on the development of the satellite towns and area councils.
“We are committed to putting in infrastructure; we are committed to urban renewal; we are committed to an affordable housing programme and we are committed to not only putting in infrastructure, but also doing an economic master plan for each area council and satellite town.
“So that areas that have competitive advantage can have certain developments pushed and located there because development is not only physical development, it is also economic development.”
Akinjide said the company started the development of the infrastructure in 2007 but with increase in the scope of work the need arose to augment the contract.
She added that the contract for the provision of infrastructure in Kubwa was increased by N18 billon, to make a total of N42 billion, while that of Karashi was increased by N11 billion to make it a total of N28 billion.
The Minister of State added that the contract would last 108 weeks.
She gave the assurance that the contract work would be sustained, explaining that the expansion of the infrastructure was necessary owing to the increasing influx of people to the territory.
Akinjide reaffirmed that the area councils would be uniformly developed, saying that they would be given equal treatment.
She further explained that the administration would do all it could to ensure that funds were made available for the development of the satellite towns.
Our correspondent reports that the Minister of State signed the contract on behalf of the Federal Government while the Managing Director of SCC, Mr Levy Yuval, signed on behalf of the company.
