Council Boss Tasks Okehi Community On Deva
The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Reginald Ukwuoma has charged the people of Okehi Umunnunu to ensure that they maintain peace so as to attract economic development and investment to the area.
The Etche Council boss who stated this last Sunday, at the swearing-in ceremony of the executive members of Okehi Umunnunu Community Development Committee (CDC) and Traditional Youth body at Okehi, also ordered the arrest of any member of the youth executive caught in secret cult activities, so that peace could be achieved for the overall development of the area.
Represented by his Special Assistant (SA) on Youth Affairs, Mr Precious Dike who is also the Chairman, Etche Youths Council, the council boss described the youths as the ones that will make good or bad things to happen in the community, and warned them against crimes while urging them to uphold the Etche Youths Constitution.
Also speaking the representative of the State Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Uzodima Nwafor charged the newly sworn-in executive of both CDC and youths body to respect the Chiefs and Elders of the community, and work in co-operation with security operatives, while being friendly with both state and local governments.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the occasion and the Head of Personnel Management (HPM) in Okrika Local Government, Mr Ahamba Okere said that the essence of the inauguration was to assist the elders to achieve and maintain peace, adding that without peace, there will be no development.
He charged the CDC and youths to live good lives and respect the elders, as well as resolve all issues through dialogue, pointing out that nobody would come to invest in the community if there is crisis, and that without investment, there will be no development.
In his speech, the Traditional Ruler of the community and the Ochinbam I of Okehi, Chief Godwin Onwuka, expressed happiness over the conduct of a peaceful election for both CDC and youths which was zoned among the six villages that make up Okechi, for a three year tenure, and also thanked the out-going CDC Chairman for his good works.
In their acceptance speeches, the new CDC Chairman, Comrade Jonah Uchenna and the Youths President, Omesirum Honest Iheanyichukwu, urged the people of Okehi to join hands with them to develop the community, pointing out that they will not betray the trust reposed on them through the help of God, and the elders.
