Dolphins Urge NPL To Assist Clubs
The Technical Adviser of Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma, has called on the Nigeria Premier Leaguer board to consider ways of assisting clubs involved in continental assignments.
Dolphins, Sunshine Stars, Heartland and Warri Wolves are representing Nigeria in this year’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Eguma said that one of the key ways to assist the clubs do well in the continent would be by postponing their league matches whenever they have continental engagements.
Eguma stated this while fielding questions from sports journalists shortly after his side narrowly beat Coton Sport of Cameroon 2-1 in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
According to him, most of their counterparts enjoy such assistance from their football bodies in their various countries.
“The NPL should assist us in terms of postponing league matches whenever we have continental engagements after all other countries have been assisting their clubs in that manner.
“Imagine, we have a crucial encounter on Sunday, we played a difficult match on Wednesday which resulted to fatigue on the players”, Eguma said.
The technical adviser further attributed the unimpressive performance on Sunday to the non-payment of players allowances for some months now.
He said that the players refused to train for the match, because they were owed match bonuses and allowances.
“I traveled to Abuja for official assignment and I observed on return that the players were agitating for their allowances. They only trained 24 hours to the match and played with low morale”, he said.
