UK Department Tasks Governors On Reform Agenda
The United Kingdom‘s Department for International Development (DFID) State Partnership for Accountability, Responsiveness and Capacity (SPARC) has advocated the need for governors to showcase their reform agenda for possible replication across the country.
This is contained in a communiqué made available last Thursday in Abuja by Mr Tim Donalson, SPARC Senior Knowledge Management Advisor.
The communiqué said the gesture would stimulate future collaboration and interest among governors of the 36 states of the federation.
According to the communiqué, the department at a recent programme in Abuja tagged; “Governance Share Fair’’, encouraged state governments to exhibit their products.
It also encouraged them to explore possible networking avenues that would boost development in their states.
Governments of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Zamfara and Niger states were all represented at the two days event which was the first in the series.
While Jigawa showcased its medium term sector strategies, Kaduna state showcased benefits of reforms in the state and the role of its bureau of public sector reform.
Zamfara and Yobe on the other hand, showcased the adoption of multi-year budgeting and governance as well as budgeting and the adoption of multi-year budgeting respectively.
According to the communiqué; “a governance market place’’ was arranged for states to display relevant information to guest and other states at the programme.
In the Sunshine category Kaduna State took the honours while in the new category Yobe was marked on content layout and presentation,’’ the communiqué said.
SPARC is an initiative of the Nigerian and UK Governments working for good governance and reduced levels of poverty in Nigeria.
