Speedboat Owners Hail LG Boss Over Life Jackets
Speedboat Owners Association in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, has lauded the council chairman, Barr. Tamuno Williams for presenting 200 live-vests to the body.
The chairman of the organisation, Chief Sunday Opeya, who made the commendation on behalf of the members during an interview with The Tide correspondent at Okrika on Wednesday said the gesture was remarkable as no council chairman had deemed it necessary to provide such an assistance to the body for the safety of the people whose major means of travelling had been marine transportation.
Chief Opeya said the importance of live vests to mariners could not be over-emphasised, saying that the gesture had also indicated that the chairman had the safety of lives and property of his people at heart, and appealed to the Okrikans to always vote in credible chairmen that would touch the lives of the masses.
He said God would guide him and continue to give him the wisdom and courage to put smiles on the faces of the masses, enjoining him to keep up the spirit so that others would emulate.
The chairman of the speedboat owners however assured utmost utilisation of the life jackets and also called on both the boat drivers and their passengers to ensure that they were not damaged or kept at a dirty place.
Chief Opeya also used the forum to appeal to the Okrika Council boss to help them with a filling station where they could purchase petrol for their business, since government had banned buying or selling of fuel in Jerry cans at petrol stations, and this had been given the members great concern, saying that sitting at such a place would ameliorate the members from embarrassment at filling stations by security personnels.
It would be recalled that the Okrika Local Government Chairman, Hon Tamuno Williams recently presented 200 brand new vest to the speedboat owners for marine safety.
